The current issue of Technology and Learning magazine has a short article by Scott McLeod discussing students' feelings about "tech-phobic" professors. http://www.techlearning.com/content/about/tl_current.php "This technology-free approach to learning can't make much sense to the average 20-something college student, who may be skepticsl about her professor's general relevance in this digital era." This same issue has a good article on the need for building online communities. Jane |

Jane, you are right. The article points to a serious problem. It is scary that many professors don’t have a clue about the new technologies and their students are way ahead of them. This can lead to student boredom and apathy. Today’s students are used to being stimulated with onscreen material and interactivity. If much of this new technology is new to doctoral students who want to become university professors, what about all of the “tenured” professors who have no training or interest in learning this new medium?
AMEN!! It is hard to imagine a teacher in the environment of all the young adults who is not at least peripherally aware of the technology and its value to the students. Some of it almost has to rub off, which you would think would cause them to use a little bit of it too!!
